CyberKnife

Our Approach

CyberKnife® is a special type of radiosurgery that uses superior accuracy and unique tumor tracking to deliver large doses of radiation directly to a tumor. It is a safe, painless outpatient procedure that doesn't carry the risks and complications associated with conventional surgery.

The CyberKnife system locates the tumor in your body using sophisticated imaging technology. Your doctor then utilizes CyberKnife computer technology to evaluate the unique shape and location of your tumor and determine how to target it.

During treatment, CyberKnife accurately delivers the very concentrated beams to your tumor from multiple positions and angles. Its precision leaves your healthy surrounding tissue unharmed. And CyberKnife continually checks and corrects for any body movement, even your breathing, during treatment.

Benefits of CyberKnife

Unlike surgery or chemotherapy, CyberKnife does not require incisions or chemicals. It’s a pain-free, patient-friendly option with minimal side effects.

Treatment generally takes 30 to 90 minutes, and you are awake throughout the session. Because CyberKnife adjusts to your body movements, no uncomfortable metal head frame is necessary. You can listen to music during your treatment, and you can resume normal activities immediately afterwards.

Conditions Treated by CyberKnife

CyberKnife technology is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat tumors and lesions throughout the body. The CyberKnife system is used to treat a variety of cancerous and non-cancerous tumors (malignant and benign tumors) including:

  • Brain
  • Kidney
  • Liver
  • Lung
  • Neck
  • Pancreas
  • Pelvis
  • Prostate
  • Skull
  • Spine

Referral and Insurance Information

You do not need a referral to be seen at the HealthEast CyberKnife Center, and CyberKnife treatment is covered by most insurance carriers. We recommend that you check with your insurance company to find out if it requires a referral. Please check with your carrier for specific insurance information and to find out about any pre-authorization requirements.
