Get to know our adult day program: Daybreak of St. Paul

Starting this fall, the hub will host a first-of-its-kind model of adult day programming in Minnesota. The program, called Daybreak of St. Paul, will help underserved seniors and other adults maintain active and independent lives through an enhanced adult day experience.

The program is run by Ebenezer, a subsidiary of Fairview that specializes in senior living and care throughout the greater Twin Cities and beyond. Ebenezer is also working on plans to fill currently empty space in the de Paul Tower with skilled nursing units in early 2023. These units will not only help address critical shortages of care in the Twin Cities, such as transitional care, but they will create new options for skilled nursing care for low-income seniors.

What exactly is a senior or adult day program?

Here is more information about Daybreak of St. Paul, shared by representatives from Ebenezer.

Adult day programming is empowering programming to help adults or seniors who need some daily support and engagement. It also helps family members or caregivers who need time off to go to take care of other responsibilities, including work. We bring in seniors or adults with additional needs to our safe, structured space where they can participate in activities ranging from gardening to trivia to creative arts. We help people learn or try new things, like woodworking. Participants come to us with varying support needs, including those who need socialization and connection with others. We invite them to a space where they can converse, get a nutritious meal, and participate in activities that are fun, exciting, and new. This is all so important for nurturing a person’s mental and physical wellbeing. In addition, clients of our adult program will have easy, convenient access to the other care options located right in the hub – everything is very accessible.

Everybody needs a reason to get up and dressed and ready for the day. As human beings we are wired to be social creatures, and adult day programming provides a great outlet for people to socialize, learn, grow, and receive wellness services. We want our participants to feel good about their day and get excited about coming in to meet friends and discover new things.

Ebenezer has been around for more than 100 years. While many people know us as a senior housing and health care provider, there’s more to our work in the community. We have been providing community-based services for decades now, helping fill out our continuum of services in response to the needs of those we serve, and also giving family members or caregivers the benefit of a brief respite. Whether our community needs senior living options like assisted living, independent living, memory care, enhanced care, or skilled care, or if they need a specialized program like adult day services or intergenerational childcare, Ebenezer is out in the community meeting those needs.
