Helping our local area students succeed
Fairview Lakes Medical Center, with the Fairview Lakes Volunteer Organization, offers the following scholarships to community members.
All applicants must reside in the Fairview Lakes region: Pine City to Lino Lakes; Highway 65 to Wisconsin border. Fairview Lakes Medical Center employees and their children are also eligible regardless of residence. Additional criteria for each scholarship is noted below.
Cindy Lynch Scholarship
For individuals pursuing or advancing a nursing career
Criteria for participation:
- First priority to adults pursuing career as an RN or advancing his/her career in nursing
- Attending/planning to attend accredited school
- Possess good character, dependability and academic achievement
Amount: $1,000
Number available annually: 2
Fairview Lakes Love Lights Scholarship
For local high school students pursuing a career in the medical field; funded by proceeds from the Volunteer Organization's annual Love Lights tree lighting program
Criteria for participation:
- High school graduate
- Attending/planning to attend accredited school
- Possess good character, dependability and academic achievement
Amount: $1,000
Number available annually: up to 4
Fairview Lakes Volunteer Organization Scholarship
For a student pursuing a career in a medical field; funded by donations from Volunteer Organization members and proceeds from two annual fundraisers.
Criteria for participation:
- Priority for (3) scholarships given to students already enrolled in medical training program.
Amount: $1,000
Number available annually: up to 12
Fairview Lakes Medical Center Scholarship
For local high school graduates pursuing a career in the medical field
Criteria for participation:
- High school graduate
- Attending/planning to attend accredited school
- Possess good character, dependability and academic achievement
Amount: $1,000

Fairview Lakes Medical Staff
Students enrolled in accredited medical school, with priority given to students with primary care of psychiatry focus.
Amount: $1,000

Harold and Joyce Albrecht Scholarship
For students pursuing coursework toward a medical degree or nurse practitioner/ physician assistant degree; given in memory of Harold Albrecht, first chief of staff of Chisago Lakes Hospital and his wife, Joyce, a founding member of the auxiliary and volunteer/ hospital hostess for 35 years
Criteria for participation:
- Enrolled in an accredited medical school, or an accredited nurse practitioner or physician assistant degree program.
- Completed one year of medical coursework
- Committed to a defined program
- Exhibited the discipline to see program through to completion

Ken Shea Scholarship
For local high school graduates pursuing a career in the medical field; given by North Metro Anesthesia in memory of long-time co-worker Ken Shea--known for his compassion and professionalism serving Fairview Lakes patients as a nurse anesthetist

Leah Hillesheim Scholarship
For applicants pursuing a health care career; given in honor of former District Memorial Hospital Administrator Leah Hillesheim
Criteria for participation:
- High school graduate. One scholarship is designated for a Forest Lake High School student.
- Attending/planning to attend accredited school
- Possess good character, dependability and academic achievement
Amount: $1,000
Number available annually: 2
Donald and Virginia Ferguson Scholarship
For a student pursuing a career in nursing or other medical field
Criteria for participation:
- Chisago Lakes High School senior
- Accepted into an accredited two-year or four-year school of nursing; will award to another candidate planning to attend career in medical field if no qualified nursing applicant submits application
Amount: $1,000

Michas and Alma Ohnstad Medical Scholarship
For local high school graduates pursuing a career in the medical field; an endowed legacy scholarship.
Criteria for participation:
- High school graduate
- Attending/planning to attend accredited school
- Possess good character, dependability and academic achievement

Number available annually: 1
Fairview Lakes Crafters Memorial Scholarship
For local high school graduates pursuing a career in the medical field
Criteria for participation:
- High school graduate
- Attending/planning to attend accredited school
- Possess good character, dependability and academic achievement

Number available annually: 1
Application materials
Application and guidelines for 2021 will be available January 1, 2021.
Each applicant is considered for each available scholarship.
