Fairview’s Nursing Clinical Development Program offers an evidence-based transitions program for new graduate nurses. The Transition to Professional Nursing Practice Program offers three continuing education sessions during the first year of practice.
The purpose of the program is to:
Core content focuses on three critical areas: leadership, patient outcomes and professional role.
Many organizations have recommended and endorsed programs of this nature for new graduate nurses (e.g., Joint Commission, The National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Institutes of Medicine). These programs have been shown to facilitate the transition to practice and improve the performance of the new graduate nurse.
Most new graduate nurses will begin the Transition to Professional Nursing Practice program after completing their precepted unit orientation program.
New graduate nurses interested in participating in this program must first apply for an acute care position within Fairview. Once selected for a position, eligible nurses are automatically enrolled in the program.
