Rising Star award honors efforts to create new IT internships

We’re proud of helping to build a strong local workforce, including our relationship with Augsburg University in Minneapolis.

When Augsburg held its first Employer Recognition Reception, they gave a special Rising Star award to Fairview for our partnership with MSP TechHire and participation in their job fairs, on-campus interviews and hiring.

In 2015, Fairview worked with the City of Minneapolis’ MSP TechHire initiative to create new internships for IT students. MSP TechHire provides grants to recruit 12 summer interns and six interns in their senior year, with the goal of them becoming full-time hires. So far, five have come on as Fairview employees.  Many thanks to the city for their support.

One of these intern-to-employees is Nicolas Adducci, class of 2016, who spoke at the event.Augsburg University; Internship

“Internship programs like this are a bridge between a degree and a career,” Nicolas says. “When I selected an internship and actually got into the workplace, I found an environment that looked like the workplace, but was being presented as a classroom. My co-workers wanted to teach me all they could, both so I could contribute during my internship, but also to prepare me for a potential position after my internship.”

Nicolas interned on the Clinical Application Support Services team, working on the software that holds our patients' medical records. He transitioned directly into an Associate Applications Analyst after graduation. “I value being able to contribute to the patient care by supporting Fairview’s providers and staff and the technology they rely on every day.”

IT Manager Beth Chavez and Keisha Powell, HR workforce operations manager, accepted the Rising Star award for Fairview. The program is championed by Talent Acquisition and the IT department. Fairview partners with Augsburg on a variety of workforce programs.
