Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital joins Fairview system

Fairview Health Services and Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital announced today that the Grand Rapids integrated clinic and hospital has joined the Fairview system as a wholly owned subsidiary, effective Jan. 1.

“This affiliation offers great value for both organizations and for the communities we serve,” said James Hereford, Fairview president and CEO. The new partnership expands Fairview’s reach in northern Minnesota, which already includes Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing.

“For Grand Itasca, becoming part of the Fairview system offers many opportunities,” said Mike Youso, Grand Itasca CEO. “This new relationship provides access to specialty care through Fairview and University of Minnesota Health and the opportunity to expand clinical services to better serve our community.”

Both leaders see opportunities for synergy and collaboration. “With two sites in northern Minnesota, we can more effectively recruit new specialty care physicians who live and practice in the community,” said Hereford. “This allows us to provide more advanced care close to home.”

No staffing changes are planned at Grand Itasca. The hospital will keep its name and local board of directors, adding three Fairview representatives to the existing 12-member community board.
