Gold Plus Care: Fairview Hospitals Earn Top American Heart Association Honors

If you’re looking for excellence in cardiac care, look no further.

Fairview Southdale Hospital, Fairview Ridges Hospital and University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) were recently honored with top awards for excellence from the American Heart Association (AHA). The AHA’s Get with the Guidelines program recognized the care provided in heart failure cases by University of Minnesota Health (M Health) Heart Care at the three hospitals with Gold Plus quality awards.

Hospitals receiving these Gold Plus awards have met achievement metrics—including proper patient evaluation, use of evidence-based medications and adherence to care coordination guidelines—in treating heart failure patients for the past two years. Our hospitals are the only ones in Minnesota to receive the Gold Plus award, the highest award given by the AHA.

“We are proud of the work we have done and the collaboration we have achieved at M Health Heart Care across Fairview,” said Ganesh Raveendran, MD, chief of clinical cardiology. “Together we are running a top-notch program and are excited to see what the future holds.”

In addition, Fairview Southdale and UMMC were given awards for the care they provided during the last year to patients with atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat that can lead to stroke and other complications.

Where excellence comes from

The Heart Care team is continually improving quality by incorporating the latest science to provide you with the best care. In addition, teams work together and put a personal stake in the outcomes patients have—both during a hospital stay and beyond.

“Everyone wants to be the best. From the check-in staff to the nurse who educates the patient at discharge, everyone is working together to have the best outcomes for our patients,” said Tushar Vora, MD, director of non-invasive cardiology at Fairview Southdale and Fairview Ridges.
