Patients with lung disease in the Burnsville area may be able to breathe a little easier soon, thanks to the new pulmonary rehabilitation program coming to the Fairview Ridges Hospital campus.
Launching on May 3, the program will be housed in the new state-of-the-art Fairview Ridges Specialty Care Center, which opened last year.

This will be the fifth Fairview location to offer pulmonary rehabilitation; the program is currently offered in Edina, Minneapolis, Princeton and Wyoming.
“We are excited to offer pulmonary rehabilitation for our patients and families who live in the Southwest metro,” says Dave Skansberg, director of outpatient rehab services for the South Region. “Our patients, providers and care teams have been requesting this program in Burnsville. Fairview Rehabilitation Services has provided this service for years and we are fortunate to extend the excellent program to a new site.”
The program will be supported by a respiratory therapist, exercise physiologists, dietitians, a health coach and a pharmacist. These staff members will work with providers to develop customized treatment plans to suit each patient’s health needs.
Fairview’s pulmonary rehabilitation therapists provide treatment to patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, emphysema, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis and other lung conditions.
Our rehab staff works to:
- Educate patients about their diseases
- Teach them exercises to help strengthen their muscles and improve their ability to breathe
- Provide nutritional counseling to help maintain a healthy weight
- Offer peer support to help mentally cope with their health problems
“We’re proud and excited to be able to offer this vital care to our Burnsville-area patients,” says Dave.
