Fine dining, a bistro, a club room, a fitness center, a salon and spa and outdoor spaces that include a patio and fireplace overlooking a pond.
If that sounds like the opening list of amenities at an upscale hotel, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to hear it’s actually what will be available at the new Aurora on France Senior Living Community, set to open this fall.
Aurora on France will include senior apartment homes, assisted living, memory care, care suites and transitional care. With its close proximity to Fairview Southdale Hospital, it will establish itself as a groundbreaking, one-of-a-kind community.
“We have multiple campus locations but the Aurora campus is different in that it provides the full continuum of services in one building,” says Jon Lundberg, chief operating officer for Ebenezer. “The Aurora campus is a great example of our vision of driving a healthier future through innovation.”
At the heart of that innovation is a skyway that will connect the Aurora campus with Fairview Southdale Hospital. Jon says that connection allows for additional partnerships, enhanced collaboration and the introduction of models of care that truly get at improving the health outcomes of our residents and patients.
“With Aurora coming online, we have been able to move this partnership with Fairview Southdale to a new level,” says Jon. “Hospital leaders and staff have been very open to working with us in developing service models and protocols, and we are confident that the planning we are involved in today will only represent the tip of the iceberg of what is yet to come.”
Discussions about building a senior living community of this kind began almost three years ago, after the land became available, and have moved quickly ever since.
The staff at Fairview Southdale knew this type of community would provide a convenient place for their patients to rehabilitate and recover after hospitalization, and the location itself doubled as a great place for senior living, with easy access to shopping, restaurants and health care in the heart of Edina.
“There has been a great deal of excitement about this project from the community and health care providers within the industry as well as seniors in the Edina area,” says Mark Thomas, president and CEO of Ebenezer. “This will be a flagship community for Ebenezer and Fairview as well as a stunning environment for seniors to call home.”
While the Aurora campus will have many similar features compared to other Ebenezer locations, its flagship status comes from not only the featured amenities, but new ways of thinking through care.
The community will feature transitional care suites located near a state-of-the-art therapy center, which will offer short-term rehabilitative services including speech, occupational and physical therapies. How does that stand out from the rest? Due to their proximity to each other, physicians from Fairview Southdale Hospital and the Fairview Medical Group will provide medical oversight.
“Our ‘aging-in-place’ model of care brings services to each person in their home as care needs change, rather than requiring they make a move to another part of the building,” says Mark.
That model makes it well-positioned to help the greater Fairview system in reducing hospitalizations or return visits to the hospital and improving patient outcomes, says Jon.
“Aurora allows us the ability to truly impact the times of patient transition, ensuring that the best patient outcomes with the highest satisfaction and lowest overall cost of care are always at the forefront of our collective goals.”
