Thanks to generous donors like you, Fairview scholarship funds are available to help employees access new care techniques and sharpen their skills in ways they might not otherwise be able to. As a fund manager with Fairview, Diana Nowatzki sees firsthand the direct impact generous donors have on employees looking to strengthen their skillsets. “[Donor funds] are absolutely vital in providing education for specially services that we wouldn’t be able to provide otherwise or with the frequency and depth that we do,” she says.
The Judy Morgan Scholarship Fund
Since 2010, one such fund—the Judy Morgan Scholarship Fund—has improved patient care and staff development for specialized training such as neurological disease rehabilitation, Parkinson’s clinical support, pediatric therapy and stroke therapies. The fund was created by friends of Judy Morgan, who retired as system director of Rehabilitation Services in 2004. Every year, applicants, such as physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech and audiology specialists and cardiopulmonary specialists, are chosen to receive $100 to $250 grants to offset the rising costs of their continuing education. Gifts made to the fund help more than 15 employees each year with continued training. And many grant recipients willingly give back to the fund to ensure fellow colleagues can take advantage of similar educational opportunities. Diana says the gift is evident during every provider-to-patient interaction.“[The donor] is touching the lives of a patient every time that therapist, trained in part by scholarship dollars, works with a patient.”
