Faith Partnership Programs

Preparing people for spiritual care ministries

Fairview's Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program has more than 50 years of experience preparing people from many faith traditions for spiritual care ministries.

We were accredited in 1960 by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc., and we've retained that accreditation throughout our history.

What we offer

We foster an experienced-based theological education that combines the practice of spiritual care with qualified supervision and peer group reflection. We help students develop competency in the art and skills of pastoral care. We encourage them to explore their spiritual histories and deepen their pastoral identity.

We offer a choice of training levels and scheduling options and have programs at a number of locations. Find out more about the application process and tuition.

Our students come from many different faith traditions and many countries. You can get a sense of what some of them have experienced in our program by reading our student reflections.

Giving

Your giving makes a difference

If you'd like to support our work, consider making a donation. The Fairview Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program relies, in part, on generous gifts to continue the work of the program. Whether large or small, one-time or recurring, part of your estate plan or the result of a successful fundraiser, every donation you make helps Fairview continue to provide exceptional care.

You can make a safe and secure gift online. To designate your gift to Fairview's Clinical Pastoral Education program: In the drop-down menu under "Designation," select "Other" and then type "Clinical Pastoral Education" in the box which appears. Make your online gift today.

Make a gift of stock

A gift of appreciated stock can yield tax benefits for many donors. To make such a gift, please see our simple instructions.

Plan a legacy gift or bequest

A planned gift or bequest gives long-term support to Fairview and can bring a variety of financial rewards to you and your family. Whether you’re thinking about a bequest, setting up a trust or other planned gift, we can help. Contact Michael Ziomko, 612-672-7238.

Programs and Schedules

Our program options and 2017-2018 sessions

Fairview's Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Center offers three program levels—Level I, Level II and Supervisory CPE. Here are descriptions of each followed by a schedule of upcoming sessions. Most of our students take CPE as part of their graduate level theological education to prepare them for parish ministry or for professional chaplaincy.

CPE Level I

Level I addresses basic competencies and pastoral issues related to reflection, formation, identity and functioning in one or more units of CPE. A CPE student must meet Level I CPE outcomes, as documented in the supervisor's evaluation, as a prerequisite for acceptance in Level II CPE.

CPE Level II

Level II CPE addresses advanced competencies and pastoral issues of function, reflection and integration in a program of at least two units of CPE. Level I must be completed in one or more authorized CPE center(s).

Supervisory CPE

Supervisory CPE addresses the competencies and issues within the art of supervision, educating qualified persons in the theory and practice of supervision of clinical pastoral education. Students in this program need to have achieved the Level II outcomes.
