Fairview welcomes a new Chief People Officer

Mary Nease brings a track record of building positive relationships

Mary Nease, Chief People Officer
Mary Nease has joined Fairview Health Services as our Chief People Officer.

Fairview CEO James Hereford described Mary as bringing a collaborative, service-oriented manner to our organization.

"During our extensive search, we looked for a leader who could elevate the employee experience at every level of M Health Fairview," James said. "Mary possessed the right background to direct all aspects of Human Resources through a transformative time. We needed a straightforward person who could relate to people who are driven by a higher-purpose mission and want transparency and trust. Mary is that person — because when she asks, ‘How are you?’ she means it."

Mary brings a history of building positive relationships that will benefit Fairview’s collaboration with University of Minnesota Medical School and M Physicians as well as our expanding network. She will champion employee development programs, innovation, and inclusion.

Mary recently served as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Thrivent Financial, a not-for-profit with a 6,800+ workforce serving more than 2.3 million members. She spent 10 years advancing the mission of American Public Media in progressive leadership roles. Mary also held roles as Vice President of Human Resources at Travelers and US Bancorp Piper Jaffray.

A downhill skier outside of work, she believes a good day on the slopes includes wiping out a few times. If you don’t wipe out, you’re not pushing yourself and learning.
