Hate to Wait?
Visit Fairview Urgent Care when your regular clinic is closed or you can't see your own doctor as soon as you would like. Fairview Urgent Care is for non-emergency problems such as sore throats, ear infections, minor burns or cuts and bruises. The tips provided here relate to some of the most common problems that cause people to question whether to seek medical care. Contact your primary care physician for chronic problems like depression or diabetes. For very serious or life-threatening problems, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital.

Allergies vs. Pink Eye
The symptoms of allergies and pink eye are quite similar, which can make it difficult to tell them apart. An allergic reaction is triggered when your body thinks it is being attacked by a life-threatening organism and tries to get rid of it. When that protective reaction causes your eyes to itch, swell and tear, you may experience allergic conjunctivitis, which can be controlled by removing yourself from the source of allergens. If you have symptoms not relieved by taking steps to relieve allergic reaction, and you have additional symptoms of light sensitivity and pus discharge, you should seek medical attention to check the potential of viral or bacterial conjunctivitis, which is highly contagious and can cause serious eye damage.

Fever in Children - How High is Too High?
Fever has a positive role in regulating our health. An elevated temperature means your child's body is fighting an infection. A mild fever can last two to three days and need not cause alarm. The best way take your child's temperature is calmly. If your child feels miserable, he or she may not want to cooperate with anyone, but if you control your level of anxiety and reflect calmness, you can succeed. Fever reducing medications can be given in doses that depend on your child's weight.

Could it be Strep? The Telltale Signs
Besides a sore throat or tonsils, typical symptoms of strep throat include fever, swollen glands, headache, nausea and abdominal pain. They often do not seem to be caused by an accompanying cold or obvious disease. Although most cases will get better without treatment, in about 3 percent of cases the infection can lead to rheumatic fever. The effects of rheumatic fever make it worth checking to see if you have strep and have it treated. The most reliable test is an overnight throat culture. With Fairview MyChart® you can access your test results the moment they are posted.

Visit Fairview Urgent Care for pain or illnesses that just can't wait.
