Palliative Care/TLC Clinical Services


TLC includes three components: clinical services, education and community partnership. Clinical services are delivered in hospitals, long-term care nursing facilities, clinics, and at home.

Fairview Palliative Care Clinic

Patients are seen in the palliative care clinic to receive help with managing pain and other symptoms, care planning for future health care needs, assistance finding community resources, counseling, and grief and bereavement support.

Pediatric Programs - Palliative Care for Children

In addition to pediatric palliative care consultation, the interdisciplinary pediatric staff offers specialized resources to help children and their families. This includes art, poetry, and music therapists.

A comfort care kit is available on all pediatric units at the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview. These kits include materials and resources to comfort children, create mementos, and help facilitate communication among a child, family and health care team.

TLC Home Care

TLC Home Care services are provided for patients receiving home care by staff with additional training in palliative care. This program is available in the Twin Cities metro and Princeton areas.

Fairview Hospice Programs

Fairview Hospice is dedicated to care of patients with a limited life expectancy of six months or less, who have decided to forego curative or life-prolonging therapies. These comprehensive programs provide care at home or in another care setting and focuses on comfort and support of the patient and the family.
