Your ability to hear directly affects your ability to communicate with others. Fairview’s audiology services help people with hearing loss or reduced hearing to improve their ability to hear and communicate with others.

Our licensed audiologists are experts in evaluating and treating a wide range of hearing problems as well as providing, fitting and programming hearing aids. We offer nine convenient locations in  the metro and outstate areas. Many of our services are fully or partially covered by insurance. Please check with your health insurance provider.

Advanced audiology care

Advanced testing, technology and services are available through Fairview Audiology and Aural Rehabilitation Clinic at the University of Minnesota Medical Center.

• Auditory processing evaluations – measures how each ear processes information individually and together.
• Aural (hearing) rehabilitation 
• Bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHA) – a type of hearing device that has a titanium post that is imbedded into the skull
• Cochlear implants for adults and children
• Facial nerve testing (electroneuronography) – electrical stimulation of nerves to measure their ability to conduct electrical signals
• Otoacoustic emission testing – a test that measures for normal sounds produced by the inner ear to determine if the inner ear has been damaged
• Electrophysiology, including: 
• • Sedated and non-sedated auditory brainstem response (ABR or BAER) testing– a measurement of the brain's response to sounds presented through earphones. Sticker electrodes are attached to the head and ears. The patient needs to be very still or sedated during the test in order to measure the electrical activity. Most often used to determine hearing levels of infants and others unable to provide a reliable hearing test or to test the hearing nerve's integrity.
  • Cochlear Hydrops Analysis Masking Procedure (CHAMP) – A specialized ABR that helps in the diagnosis of Meniere's disease
  • Stacked ABR – helps in the diagnosis of small hearing nerve tumors
  • Steady State Potentials (ASSR) – Specialized ABR that allows measurement of  hearing in the severe to profound range
