If you have a disability, we have products and services that can help increase, maintain, or improve your ability to function and remain independent. Assistive devices are any items, pieces of equipment, or products that can simplify daily tasks. They may be as simple as a reaching tool to help pick up things you cannot normally reach, or a padded handle on a hairbrush to make it easier for you to grasp. We have high-tech devices such as fiber optic environmental control units and computers with speech output to help people with severe disabilities.
Physical, occupational and speech therapists help children and adults with services in seating and wheeled mobility, augmentative communication, computer access, and environmental control devices.
Conditions we treat
- Arthritis

Treatment we offer
Our team evaluates your physical skills and abilities at work, home or school, and assesses your current equipment. After talking with you about your lifestyle, personal goals and needs, we make technology recommendations that can add to your independence and will match your abilities. We might recommend multiple equipment systems and make use of a variety of high- and low-tech assistive devices to suit you.
Our services include
- equipment trial and prescription
- training and education
- technical resources and
- follow up to ensure you’re comfortable using your assistive device(s)
We partner with physicians, rehabilitation technology suppliers, orthotists/prosthetists and other healthcare professionals to adapt assistive technologies to your needs. When necessary, we help to explore equipment funding options and payment authorization.
Fairview's Rehabilitation Assistive Technology Services are made possible through grants from the University of Minnesota Health System and Fairview Health Services Auxiliaries.
