Course Description:
This two-day seminar presents Brian Mulligan’s concepts of Mobilization with Movement as it applies to the cervical and upper thoracic spine and upper extremities. The course is designed for licensed health care professionals who wish to broaden their existing manual therapy skills for use within their defined scope of practice. It clearly outlines the indications for this new and simple approach to the application of manual therapy in clinical practice. Past Mulligan course feedback has indicated the need for a more detailed presentation of techniques along with the development of clinical reasoning skills. This seminar is designed to meet those needs. The efficacy of this approach can be quickly and easily ascertained in clinic. MWM skills will be learned and it is an expectation of this course that those therapists with a normal caseload will find an immediate improvement in outcome measures with patients with restricted and/or painful movement.
Course Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
1. Develop a working knowledge of the Mulligan Concept as they relate to the upper quadrant..
2. Reference pertinent course material to the clinical setting and treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction as it relates to movement restriction secondary to pain and /or motion limitations.
3. Discuss and apply the principals of mobilization with movement.
4. Discuss the indications and contraindications to mobilization with movement.
5. Demonstrate beginning psychomotor skills (within the Mulligan concept) for applying treatment techniques presented in this course.
6. Discuss proposed theoretical models for the Mulligan Concept.
7. Apply course material to the clinical setting.
8. Find additional Mulligan Concept information through an internet access.
