Perianesthesia (PACU) Nursing Education Program

The Perianesthesia (PACU) Nursing Education Program is intended to fill critical perianesthesia (PACU) nursing vacancies within University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. If we are able to fill our vacancies with fully trained and qualified applicants, Fairview will not offer this education program. When the program is offered, the cost of each nurse's education is paid, and nurses earn a salary while they learn. The program consists of classroom, lab and clinical practicum.

Eligibility
All applicants must:

  • Have a current Minnesota RN license.
  • Have a minimum of three years medical/surgical or pediatric experience. The experience must be recent, within the last  three to five years.
  • Work in accepted position for a minimum of two years after completing the approximately 5-month program.

In addition, eligible internal applicants must be employed within the Fairview system for a minimum of six months and no corrective action within the past six months.

Participants are eligible for contact hours in program developed by University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. Students are hired into open positions before starting the program and paid a salary according to Fairview’s RN step and grade scale.

Note: The sponsorship is considered a “loan” by the IRS and accrues simple interest at 6 percent. The loan and interest are considered “forgiven” after the work commitment is completed, and do not need to be paid back. However, at that point, according to IRS guidelines, both the loan and interest become taxable income and are taxed at the supplemental rate of 38.9 percent.
