We are now accepting applications for the Clinical Laboratory Sponsorship Program at the University of Minnesota. Fairview’s sponsorship programs are intended to fill critical vacancies within Fairview. If we do not anticipate vacancies to occur at the completion of the program, we cannot offer the sponsorships. Any Fairview hospital that has open positions at the time the program is completed will hire program graduates.

Eligibility
Eligible candidates must:

• Be students in good standing in their final year of the Clinical Laboratory Science program at the University of Minnesota.
• Be willing to accept a full-time clinical laboratory scientist position at Fairview within one month of graduation and commit to that position for two years.

Students are selected for the sponsorship based on an application and interview process.

Applications will be accepted through Sept. 2, 2008 for the Clinical Laboratory Sponsorship Program at the University of Minnesota. Follow the instructions in the Fairview Clinical Laboratory Scientist Sponsorship Program Application Packet to apply for the sponsorship.

Sponsorship amount 
A Fairview sponsorship provides financial assistance to help offset the costs of education. In exchange, graduates of sponsored programs agree to work for Fairview for a pre-determined period of time following their graduation. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) sponsorship is valued at $7,500 and graduates commit to two years of full-time employment upon completion of the program. The $7,500 sponsorship is a stipend paid directly to the student.

Note: The sponsorship is considered a “loan” by the IRS and accrues simple interest at 6 percent. The loan and interest are considered “forgiven” after the work commitment is completed, and do not need to be paid back. However, at that point, according to IRS guidelines, both the loan and interest become taxable income and are taxed at the supplemental rate of 38.9 percent.
