Fairview-University School of Radiologic Technology

Program Description

Fairview-University offers a 24-month program in Radiologic Technology. Prerequisite college courses for the program are taken at Normandale Community College. Upon successful completion of the Radiography Program, you will be granted a certificate and be board eligible for registration in Radiologic Technology.  An Associate of Applied Science Degree will granted by the college.  The Program commences in the fall semester of each year and may accept up to 20 – 25 students per class.  The Program meets the education requirements for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.  Fairview-University’s School of Radiologic Technology program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.

Didactic Education:
The purpose of didactic education in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists Professional Curriculum for Radiography, which is followed by Program faculty, provides the Student with instruction in the areas of radiation protection, equipment operation and maintenance, image production and evaluation, radiographic procedures, and patient care. The clinical education is correlated with the didactic education to provide opportunities for the Student to apply skills learned in the classroom.

Clinical Education:
The purpose of clinical education in radiography is to provide opportunities for the Student to apply theoretical principles of radiography, patient care, procedures, and radiation protection to practical experience. The Student clinical experience will take place within Fairview’s Healthcare campuses throughout the Twin Cities Metro area. Clinical rotation scheduled hours to total approximately 1,700.  Clinical assignment weekday hours may range from 5:30 am until 11:00 pm. Evening rotation hours will run from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm and will constitute three to five percent of the total clinical hours. The required clinical and didactic student involvement in the Radiologic Technology Program will not exceed 40 hours per week.
