Selection and Notification
Dietetic Internship Program

Selection criteria
Selection committee members rate the following areas in the order listed below:

  1. Application packet completed as directed
  2. Academic Standing:  Overall GPA of 3.0 (based on 4.0 scale) or higher from baccalaureate program.  In addition, prefer a GPA of at least 3.0 for science and nutrition courses.  Recency of education must be met.
  3. Content of Application letter
  4. Work experience
  5. Letters of Recommendation
  6. Honors and/or Extracurricular Activities (collegiate level)

To further help the selection process, selected Preselect candidates will be interviewed in person and selected Computer Matching individuals will be interviewed via telephone before the final selections are made.

Preselect Process
The Dietetic Internship Program of the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview offers an opportunity for early admission through the Preselect Process  to its affiliated institution, the University of Minnesota.

To be eligible for this Preselect Process, the following additional requirements to the selection criteria must be met:

  • Baccalaureate degree or baccalaureate degree eligible from the University of Minnesota, and 
  •  Verification of completion or intent to complete the Didactic Program in Dietetics from the University of Minnesota.

The Dietetic Internship Program of the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview is accredited to accept a maximum annual enrollment of 10 students.  Up to five of those may be filled through the Preselect Process, with the remainder to be filled through the Computer Matching Process.

Computer Matching
With the exception of the Preselect Process at select and preapproved Dietetic Internships, applicants to Dietetic Internships must participate in computer matching.  Applicants request instructions and a mark/sense card to prioritize their Dietetic Internship preference from any ADA-approved Didactic Program in Dietetics or from D&D Digital Systems.  The code number (to be used in the mark/sense card) for the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview Dietetic Internship Program is 348.  This request should be made to allow turnaround time for submission by the Feb. 17, 2009 postmark deadline. There is no charge for the material; however, there is a $50 charge for computer matching that is due with the applicant’s prioritized ranking, payable to D and D.

Notification of Results
Applicants applying through the Preselect Process for Computer Matching are notified of their acceptance or rejection for early admission to the program by the Dietetic Internship Program Director on Jan. 28, 2010.  Acceptance or rejection for early admission to the program must be confirmed with the Dietetic Internship Program Director via e-mail or fax by 5 p.m. central time on Jan. 29, 2010.  Applicants not selected or confirmed for early admission, may apply again and/or to other programs, through the Computer Matching Process.

Applicants applying through the standard Computer Matching Process will receive notification of the matching results from D&D Digital Systems on April 5, 2010. Matched applicants must e-mail or fax the Program Director to confirm the acceptance or rejection of the match by 5 p.m. central time on April 7, 2010.
