ALUMNI
Class of 2007

The Third class grew to ten students, three males and seven females.  They came from the academic affiliates: Augsburg College, North Dakota State University, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.  One student was post baccalaureate and the remainder were seniors in their respective colleges.  In addition to excelling in their cousework, this class knew how to have a good time!

Research projects for the Class of 2007 were:

  • Jessica Asiala:  Comparing Gel and Tube Methods for Antibody Sensitivity in a Blood Bank Lab
  • John Dvorak:  Performance Verification of the New Sysmex XE2100 and XT1800i Hematology Analyzer
  • Erin Ende:  Analysis of Antibiotic Sensitivities
  • Stephanie Harbaugh:  A Look at MRSA in the Laboratory
  • Kacie Hughes:  Occurrence of Positive Blood Cultures from Specimens Collected by Phlebotomists vs Other Hospital Staff
  • Brett Lee:  Investigating the Relationship between von Willebrand Antigen and Factor VIII Levels with Various Blood Groups
  • Andrew Matzke:  turn Around Times for Blood Samples at Lakes Hospital
  • Kathryn Remarcik:  Evaluation of Bacterial Growth from Wooden Applicator Sticks Used in vitek Set-Up
  • Maria Tauer:  The Effects of Vibration on Estimated Sedimentation RAte (ESR)
  • Hannah Ternberg:  Evaluation of Clostridium difficile Detection Methods at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview-university

Maria Tauer, North Dakota State University, was the recipient of an ASCLS-MN scholarship.

Seven of the ten graduates are working for Fairview laboratories.  Three of them are employed on the university campus, one on the Riverside campus, two at Southdale, and one at Ridges.  One of the graduates took a position in Portland, Oregon, one at the Buffalo, MN hospital and one started graduate school at NDSU and will only work part-time.  All graduates have passed the national certification exam.
