My heart health is back on track
"I thought it was heart burn, but when my symptoms worsened, I went to the ER. Test results were normal, but my doctor knew better. He ordered an angiogram, which led to open heart surgery to fix four blocked arteries. I'm lucky my doctor kept looking for answers."

Fairview Northland Medical Center earned the “Best Minnesota Hospital Workplace" award for small hospitals. This award honors hospitals that “go the extra mile” in enhancing employee satisfaction and engagement.
Fairview Northland Medical Center received the award for its focus on employee and provider engagement and achieving Best-in-Class status for employee engagement, as measured on a recent employee survey. This is the second year Fairview Northland has won this honor.
Cory Jendro, clinical quality specialist, describes working for Fairview Northland as extremely rewarding. “Our work at Fairview Northland helps members of our community through the most difficult and joyous times in their lives. Not only have we built a culture focused on patients so that ‘our everyday is a patient’s once in a lifetime,’ but Fairview Northland also cares deeply about its employees. Leaders support staff beyond the walls of the facility and understand the importance and value of a well-rounded work-life balance.”
Fairview Northland President John Herman says the medical center has worked hard to develop a culture of “achieving excellence" to provide the best care and service possible to the patients and the communities they serve.
“To accomplish this, we strive to provide the best work setting and environment to allow employees to achieve career satisfaction, work-life balance and personal enrichment,” Herman says. “Everyone is a part of the team, and everyone’s role is important to achieving this goal. By investing in our team and our leaders, we have created outstanding engagement and therefore we are making an important investment for the community.”
Minnesota Hospital Association President and CEO Lawrence Massa said Fairview Northland stood out as a best workplace for its comprehensive efforts to create an environment that promotes employee and patient satisfaction. In all, MHA presented 18 awards for extraordinary achievement in categories ranging from advocacy on behalf of hospitals and volunteerism to innovation and improvement in patient care and patient safety.
