Your Fairview Clinic
is starting the first phases of a transition to an electronic health record system called Epic. Once complete, your health care provider will have a computer at their fingertips during your clinic visits instead of a folder filled with papers and reports. As a patient, you will see many positive changes related to the new system:
-
Your records will always be current and up-to-date.
-
Your provider will have faster access to lab and other results.
-
Registration will be faster and more efficient.
-
Your provider will have health information at their fingertips to use to discuss specific health issues with you and provide resources for you to take home.
-
For your safety, this system immediately checks for drug and allergy interactions when new prescriptions are being considered.
-
Your medical record will be completely confidential.
-
Your medical history will be a part of the new record.
-
Providers will be able to make their notes right in the chart without having to do dictation later. Ultimately, this will allow more time for patients and less time spent with paperwork.
New scheduling, registration and billing processes
The first parts of the new system to “go-live” will be the areas of appointment scheduling, registration and billing. As a patient, you may find that the registration process may take longer and the wait time to actually check-in is longer than usual. It is needed to make sure that patient and insurance information is current and accurate. You will be asked to verify the registration information we have on file and to possibly sign a new authorization form as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
You will receive additional information as we move forward with the next phases of this electronic health record transition. If you have questions please contact Jim Platten, Senior Director of Ambulatory Care and Process Improvement, 763-502-4845.
