This hands on workshop is for pregnant women and their partners who have already taken a birthing class but would like to spend more time to practice the comfort measures used for labor at a slower pace. Partners will learn how to support the laboring woman so they may both achieve a satisfying labor and birth experience. Couples taking this class should have taken a Birth & Parenting Preperation 5 week series, Birth & Parenting Preperation Express class, or have a strong knowledge of the stages of labor.
This workshop does not include a tour of the maternity unit.

This class will explore the first few weeks of a newborn's life. Time will be spent examining how newborn behavior helps parents better understand and respond to their baby including how to know if a baby is hungry and how to breastfeed their baby.

How to know if a baby is hungry or sleepy

For expectant parents in the last three months of pregnancy who have not previously taken childbirth classes. This class is a condensed version of the Birth and Parenting class.
Topics include: challenges, joys and concerns of pregnancy, labor process, birth options, cesarean birth, medical care and decision making, breathing, relaxation and labor support techniques, care of a newborn, adjustment to your new role as parents, tour of the maternity unit.
For expectant parents in the last 3 to 4 months of pregnancy. This class will address the same topics as the Birth and Parenting Preparation class with additional time spent on postpartum and newborn topics.
This class will also include information on breastfeeding.
Topics include: challenges, joys and concerns of pregnancy, labor process, birth options, cesarean birth, medical care and decision making, breathing, relaxation and labor support techniques, care of a newborn, adjustment to your new role as parents, tour of the maternity unit.
For expectant parents in the last three months of pregnancy who have not previously taken childbirth classes. This class is structured to provide opportunities to get to know other expectant parents. Topics include:
Challenges, joys and concerns of Pregnancy
Labor process
Birth options

Breathing, relaxation and labor support techniques

For expectant mothers and their partners in the last two months of pregnancy. This program prepares you for breastfeeding before the baby is born.
WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO BRING YOU PARTNER, FAMILY MEMBER OR OTHER PERSON.
Topics include: breastfeeding:getting started, separating facts from myths about breastfeeding, supplies, problems: how to prevent them and solutions if they occur, introduction to breastfeeding and working, techniques for supporting the breastfeeding woman.

Join us at the Birthplace at Fairview Southdale Hospital for a night of education and fun. Learn more about our mother and baby services and take a tour of the Birthplace.
Our Birthplace care team will be on hand to answer your questions about labor, delivery, breast feeding, massage and other services available to you while you are in the hospital. We'll show you how to pre-register for your upcoming hospital stay and help you find the right pediatrician for your new family member.
$20 FEE IS PER PERSON
There are no refunds or rescheduling for this class.
Intended for parents, this class can be taken before or after the baby's birth. Grandparents, daycare providers, babysitters, and other who assist with infant care will also find this course, developed by the American Heart Association, helpful. Course cards are not issued.

This is a class for pregnant women and their partners who would like to spend more time preparing for a non-medicated birth. Couples will have the opportunity to practice the comfort measures used for labor and birth at a slower pace. Labor support persons are strongly encouraged to attend all classes. Tour of the maternity unit is included.

For expectant parents who have completed a childbirth series with a previous birth.
Topics include: review of labor and birth process, review of breathing, relaxation and labor support techniques, update of the hospital, medical procedures and birth options, adding a child to the family, and a tour of the maternity unit.
For expectant parents of twins, triplets or more. This class will spend time discussing the unique needs of families preparing to welcome more than one baby.
Topics include: joys and challenges of a multiple pregnancy, labor process, birth options, cesarean birth, medical care and decision making, breathing, relaxation, and labor support techniques, infant care for two or more babies, feeding options, life-style changes/challenges, and a tour of the maternity unit.
