Adaptive yoga class benefits people with MS
Studies have shown that people with MS who participate in yoga have a reduction in fatigue. Yoga is a great way to maintain or improve strength and concentration. It is a physical and mental workout focused on breathing and postures that can improve balance, coordination and flexibility while reducing stress.
Fairview MSAC is offering a six-week introduction to yoga beginning Jan. 4. The class meets every Tuesday from 8:45 to 10 a.m. The class is designed to provide an introduction to yoga poses and breathing technique. The goal of the course is to make the participant comfortable practicing yoga independently at home.
This class is led by Casey Graham, R.T., a recreation therapist and certified yoga instructor with special training in adapting yoga for disabilities. An MS-certified specialist will also be present to help modify poses and provide ideas for individualized adaptations if needed.
The cost is $50.00 for the six-week course
