Dr. Christie Heikes,  MD
Board-certified orthopedic surgeon Christie Heikes earned her medical degree and completed her residency from the University of Minnesota Medical School-Twin Cities. Additionally, Dr. Heikes completed an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at Minnesota Sports Medicine.

While at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Heikes competed in track and cross country. Her experience and continued activity level gives her a strong understanding of the unique challenges that face athletes and active females of all ages.

Dr. Heikes sees patients at Minnesota Orthopedic Sports Medicine Institute at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Edina and Minneapolis-Riverside. She also serves as faculty for the TCO- MOSMI/Fairview Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship program. Dr. Heikes is a team physician for St. Louis Park High School, St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Perpetual Motion Gymnastics in Woodbury, Legacy and TAGS Gymnastics in Eden Prairie, and Jam Hops Gymnastics in Ham Lake.

Dr. Heikes specializes in sports medicine, ACL reconstruction, patellar instability, knee and shoulder arthroscopy, running injuries, total knee arthroplasty and fracture care. Current research interests include the knee and ACL reconstruction outcomes.

Course Description
To review clinically relevant anatomy and physical exam findings of the injured athlete and to identify injuries that need prompt referrals.

Objectives

  •  Review clinically relevant anatomy and physical exam findings.
  •  Describe common athletic injuries and treatments.
  •  Identify common athletic injuries that need more immediate referral to orthopedics.
