Chronic Pain Management–Online CE Course

Course Description
Chronic Pain Management  is a conceptual approach to chronic pain disorders.  It includes emotional factors that impact pain coping and adjustment, rehabilitative approach to chronic pain management and collaboration with the Fairview Pain Management Center.

Objectives

  • Present the biopsychosocial approach to the management of chronic pain conditions
  • Discuss emotional factors that impact pain coping and adjustment
  • Present the rehabilitative approach to the management of chronic pain conditions
  • Provide a description of the Fairview Pain Management Center
  • Discuss collaboration with Fairview Pain Management Center

Speakers
John T. Mullen, Ph.D., L.P., is the lead psychologist of the Fairview Pain Management Center. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and completed a Doctorate in Clinical Health Psychology at the Finch University of Health Sciences, Chicago Medical School. He joined Fairview in 2000 after completing a two-year Fellowship in Behavioral Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. His clinical interests focus on the understanding and management of the complex array of factors that influence adjustment to chronic and persistent pain conditions.

Annmarie Wenzel, P.T. received her degree in physical therapy in 1994 from Saint Louis University. She practiced at Barnes Hospital, Saint Louis, Mo., while attending Washington University from 1994-1996. She moved to Minnesota in 1996, where she practiced at the Institute for Athletic Medicine from 1996-2001 and Fairview Home Care from 2001-2003. Annmarie has been with the Fairview Pain Management Center since 2003.

Instructions
The Chronic Pain Management course can be accessed through the LMS system.  Refer to the  Elearning instructions for assigning yourself the e-learning, viewing the presentation, printing course notes, and post-test completion.  To receive a course certificate, contact the CE coordinator by phone or email: rehabce@fairview.org or 612-672-5607. Go to the Fairview Intranet and on the left hand side under System support you will find the link to the LMS(Learning Management System.

The Chronic Pain Management course has been approved for 1.0 Category 1 CE credits for Physical Therapists. At this time it is not an AOTA or ASHA approved course. 

The Chronic Pain Management course has been approved for 1 CEUs through the BOC for Athletic Trainers.
