Personalized, family-centered care for your newborn
Fairview Southdale Hospital is among only five percent of hospitals in the nation with a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). If your baby is born prematurely, is critically ill or you have a multiple birth, there is 24-hour care onsite to provide immediate, advanced care to your newborn.
Experienced, innovative care around the clock
Our providers specialize in personalized, family-centered care for the smallest babies and the most complex cases.
• We care for infants born at 30 weeks gestation and beyond.
• Because parental participation is so important, the NICU at Fairview Southdale Hospital makes it possible for families to be with their babies 24 hours a day.
• The NICU is staffed around the clock by specially trained neonatal nurse practitioners. They work in partnership with internationally respected, board-certified University of Minnesota Physicians neonatologists.
Your baby will receive complete, comprehensive care
The NICU team also includes respiratory therapists, pediatric radiologists, licensed social workers, speech and physical therapists, and lactation consultants who use their advanced training and the latest technology to care for your baby. You and your baby receive comprehensive care from a multidisciplinary team.
The NICU at Fairview Southdale Hospital is a Level III NICU. If more specialized care is needed, your baby will be transported to the Level IV NICU at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, which provides the most advanced neonatal care available.
