Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists are board certified in maternal-fetal medicine. In addition, our maternal-fetal medicine team has one of the only physicians in Minnesota who is dually trained in maternal-fetal medicine and clinical genetics.
Our Centers are part of the University of Minnesota National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health, which serves as a national model to provide innovative, comprehensive and interdisciplinary care for women.
Our maternal-fetal medicine providers often collaborate with echocardiographers, genetic counselors, neonatologists, cardiologists, ultrasonographers and registered nurses, among other specialists. University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital is located on the same campus as the Minneapolis Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center. The children’s hospital has a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that provides the highest level of neonatal intensive care available. Maternal-Fetal Medicine patients who receive care at our Edina and Burnsville locations also have access to these services.
Care for women who are:
- Of advanced maternal age
- Pregnant with a child who has indications of an abnormality such as spina bifida or Down Syndrome
- Pregnant with multiples
Women who have:
- A history of preterm delivery
- A history of preterm labor An incompetent cervix
- Gestational diabetes
- History of preeclampsia
- Pre-existing medical conditions, such as cardiac disease or cystic fibrosis
- Prior fetal or neonatal death
- Recurrent pregnancy losses
