The heart failure program at University of Minnesota Medical Center is one of the largest and most sophisticated in the nation. Our physicians are at the forefront of a generation of breakthroughs in advanced heart failure management and heart transplant. As leaders in innovative diagnostics, treatments and research, we are committed to bringing the science and art of medicine together to provide the best possible outcomes for patients and their families.

Among the breakthroughs are proven state-of-the-art medications, mechanical heart assist devices and surgical intervention, including resynchronization and transplantation. We specialist in the full spectrum of patients from minimally symptomatic, to those with advanced disease and heart transplant recipients. University of Minnesota is one of eight centers selected by the National Institute of Health to develop and evaluate new treatments for congestive heart failure

Congestive heart failure diagnosis and management

  • CORE program -- Patients also have can receive care from the Cardiomyopathy Optimization Rehabilitation Education clinic (CORE) program offered at the Southdale location. The CORE program delivers comprehensive, state-of-the-art care to patients with cardiomyopathy and heart failure. This outpatient program helps people avoid hospitalizations, slow the progression of their disease, improve the length and quality of life and detect future heart problems before they become life threatening.

  • Advanced heart failure diagnosis and treatment -- Patients with more severe heart failure need the most advanced diagnostic tests and latest scientific breakthroughs in treatment. Our advanced heart failure team, based at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview; and Fairview Southdale Hospital, helps patients with advanced symptoms. They guide patients through the options of advanced medical therapy, pacemaker heart devices that improve heart function, ventricular assist heart pumps and heart transplantation.
