Fairview Diabetes Education offers reliable information and advice for you and your family. Our education program is for patients of all ages, newly diagnosed and those who have had diabetes for some time. The program is specially designed for:

  • People newly diagnosed with diabetes
  • Children with diabetes and their families
  • Women with diabetes who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy
  • Women with gestational diabetes (developed during pregnancy)
  • Those who have had a change in their treatment or have experienced a change in their condition
  • Those with diabetes who have not seen an educator in the past year

Meet with a diabetes educator to develop a personal care plan that will be as individual as you are, and includes:

  • A customized food plan
  • Instruction on testing blood glucose with a meter
  • Small group classes (family and friends included free)
  • Regular follow-up (by phone or in person)
  • Permanent access to the Fairview Diabetes Care team
  • Free support groups
  • Current printed materials
  • Financial help for services, if needed

Support groups are open to people with diabetes, their family and friends. These are scheduled learning sessions with certified diabetes health care professionals and provide open discussion with others who have diabetes. Some topics include:

  • Overview of diabetes
  • Medications and exercise for blood glucose control
  • Nutrition: A cornerstone of diabetes management
  • Healthy living
