Delivering an Exceptional Birth Experience
The Birthplace staff has helped women deliver tens of thousands of babies, but we still view every birth as unique. We work closely with you and your healthcare provider to support the choices you make in your birth plan, to ensure your experience is exceptional.
The Birthplace offers additional Amenities and Services for new moms and their babies. Services include certified nurse lactation consultants for breastfeeding assistance and support, photography, convenient access to Fairview Pharmacies and more.
We’re pleased to now offer our patients the choice of certified nurse midwives for labor and delivery from Fairview – Paul Larson Clinic. You can also meet the Fairview midwives, learn about their services and view patient stories.
What newborn care and support can you expect?
After your baby’s birth, our experienced baby specialists will help you learn how to care for your baby. You’ll learn important tips that are fascinating and even sometimes fun. Certified, caring lactation consultants are on hand to assist and support you for successful breastfeeding.

Onsite critical care for newborns
Should your newborn arrive early or need advanced care, a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is located near The Birthplace. Care is provided around the clock by specially trained neonatal nurse practitioners who work in partnership with University of Minnesota Physicians' neonatologists.
If your baby needs the highest level of care available, University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital—located on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota Medical Center, campus in Minneapolis—has a Level IV NICU.
What if you need special care for a high-risk pregnancy?
Specialists at University of Minnesota Medical Center's three Maternal-Fetal Medicine Centers provide care for pregnant women who are — or who have a high risk of — experiencing a medically complicated pregnancy.
