New! Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Fairview Southdale Hospital Now Open!
Our Neonatal Intensive Care Units are available at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina and University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. The NICU is staffed by a team of nurses and doctors trained to care for the most complex of premature and critically ill newborns.
The NICUs at Fairview Ridges Hospital and Fairview Southdale Hospital are Level III-A nurseries, caring for babies born at 30 weeks or beyond. The NICU at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital is a Level III-C nursery, the most advanced nursery, and is able to provide care to all premature and critically ill infants.
Our NICUs treat a variety of conditions including:
- Prematurity (including low birth weight)
- Breathing problems
- Intrauterine growth restriction (baby grows slower than normal while inside the uterus)
- Multiples (twins, triplets and more)
- Infections
- Jaundice
- Low blood-sugar
Our specialized care capabilities include:
- Mechanical ventilation (continuous life support)
- Minor surgical procedures
- Human Milk Bank
