Delivering an exceptional birth experience
Staff members in The Birthplace have helped women deliver thousands of babies, but we still view every birth as unique. We work closely with you and your health care provider to support the choices you make about your child's birth to ensure your experience is exceptional.
Your comfort and convenience matter to us
We’ve designed spacious, private and secure birthing and postpartum rooms. They come equipped with the latest technology, assuring the best for you and your baby. Rooms also include Wi-Fi so you can immediately announce your happy news. Other comforts include web-enabled televisions and refrigerators in your post-partum room.
What newborn care and support can you expect?
After your baby’s birth, our experienced baby specialists will help you learn how to care for your baby. You’ll learn important tips that are fascinating and even sometimes fun. We are proud to be a designated Baby-Friendly® Hospital – a prestigious honor that recognizes facilities that offer mothers the information, skills and confidence to successfully breastfeed their babies. Certified, caring lactation consultants are on hand to assist and support you for successful breastfeeding. All registered nurses in The Birthplace have had at least 20 hours of education about lactation. We also offer appointments with a lactation specialist after you take your baby home.
Are you pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant?

Critical care for newborns
Should your baby arrive early, our tele-nursery capability allows neonatologists at University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital to consult over a weblink. If your baby needs more advanced care, he or she can be transported to the Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Care is provided around the clock by specially trained neonatal nurse practitioners who work in partnership with University of Minnesota Physicians neonatologists.
What if you need special care for a high-risk pregnancy?
Physicians at Fairview Lakes Medical Center work in conjunction with the specialists at University of Minnesota Medical Center and Fairview’s three Maternal-Fetal Medicine Centers to provide care for pregnant women who are — or who have a high risk of — experiencing a medically complicated pregnancy. This team will help decide the most appropriate site for the birth of your baby.
