What newborn care and support can you expect?
After your baby’s birth, our experienced baby specialists will help you learn how to care for your baby and share important tips with you. During your stay, we'll make every effort for you and your baby to receive care from the same nurse, helping build continuity of care. Certified and caring lactation consultants are on hand to assist and support you for successful breastfeeding.
Are you pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant?
If you’re looking for a physician or certified nurse midwife to care for you during the planning phases of your pregnancy, while you're pregnant and after you give birth, we partner with many outstanding healthcare providers in the area. Find a clinic near you.

Onsite critical care for newborns
Should your newborn arrive early or need advanced care, three of our hospitals have onsite Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). Depending on your situation, your baby would receive care at Fairview Southdale Hospital and Fairview Ridges Hospital, which have Level III-A NICUs. If your baby needs the highest level of care available, University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital—located on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview campus in Minneapolis—has a Level III-C NICU. All NICUs are staffed around the clock by neonatal nurse practitioners who work in partnership with University of Minnesota Physicians' eonatologists.
What if you need special care for a high-risk pregnancy?
Specialists at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview’s three Maternal-Fetal Medicine Centers provide care for pregnant women who are—or who have a high risk of—experiencing a medically complicated pregnancy.
Fairview features nearly 4,000 providers practicing at over 200 locations throughout the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area and beyond. Fairview Clinics, University of Minnesota Physicians and our independent partner clinics provide an exceptional care experience, while lowering the overall costs of health care.
