Prostate cancer treatments

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer—other than skin cancer—that occurs in men and the second leading cause of cancer deaths. For most men, prostate cancer grows slowly. Detecting prostate cancer in an early, more treatable form may increase the success of treatments and survival.

At Fairview, experts in urologic surgery, medical oncology, radiation therapy and patient education work together to bring the best possible resources to men with prostate cancer. Our team of specialists are dedicated to providing non-biased, evidence-based treatment options to each patient and their family while supporting them in their treatment decisions.

If you're diagnosed with prostate cancer, there are many treatment options available. The best treatment for one man may not be the best for another so our doctors will work together to develop a treatment plan that meets your medical and personal needs. Your doctor can describe your treatment choices,
the expected results of each, and the possible side effects.

Types of treatment

  • Watchful waiting (also called active surveillance)
  • Surgery
  • Radiation therapy
  • Hormone therapy

  • Frequent urination (especially at night)
