Treating bone and soft tissue cancers
Sarcomas
Sarcomas come in several different varieties, identified by the specific type of tissue in which their growth begins.
Osteosarcoma
The most common type of bone cancer is osteosarcoma. It starts in the ends of growing bones and frequently is diagnosed in the knees of teenagers.
Chondrosarcoma
Chondrosarcoma begins in the cartilage of the bones and joints. It is more common in men.
Ewing’s Sarcoma
There are three types of Ewing’s sarcoma that can develop in the immature tissue of your bone marrow. This type of tumor might appear in the bones of the legs, arms, chest, trunk, back or head. It occurs most often in children and young adults.
Kaposi’s Sarcoma
Kaposi’s sarcoma occurs most often in the walls of blood vessels. Your risk is higher if you have HIV or AIDS.
When should you call your doctor?
If you feel a lump connected to a bone or in some of the soft tissue spaces, especially if the lump is warm or hurts when you press on it, call your doctor.
