He has participated on the editorial boards of several professional journals and is the author or co-author of 25 book chapters and more than 200 articles, including articles in Nature, Nature Medicine, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, and the Journal of the American Medical Association.
At the invitation of the President of the IXA, Dr. Hering chaired the preparation of the 'The International Xenotransplantation Association consensus statement on conditions for undertaking clinical trials of porcine islet products in type 1 diabetes', which was published in a special issue of Xenotransplantation in 2009.
