We want to be sure that we always identify our patients accurately. The goal is two-fold: to identify the person for whom the care or treatment is intended, and to match the care or treatment to that person.
Since June 2006, Fairview has been working on a method for verifying patient identification (ID). Our focus is on:
- Standardizing what goes on the patient's ID band
- Standardizing the colors used to indicate a patient's risk of falling, allergies and other similar concerns
The chart below shows Fairview patients' opinions about the consistency of nursing staff in verifying patient ID. Taken from patient satisfaction surveys, the results show that patients increasingly note that nurses are doing a "good" job checking patient ID.
These results represent patients who think nurses did a "good" or "very good" job checking patient ID.
