Fairview hospitals are proud to join with other hospitals statewide in reporting, sharing and learning from incidences of 28 types of serious events as part of Minnesota’s Adverse Health Event Reporting law. This pioneering law was developed by a coalition of Minnesota hospitals, including Fairview, to improve patient safety by encouraging reporting and sharing information.
Reporting and understanding of events has increased in Minnesota hospitals. In fact, Minnesota hospitals, and Fairview, are leaders nationally in reporting and working to reduce adverse health events.
The Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) have made public serious health care events reported in 28 categories that occurred between Oct. 7, 2006 and Oct. 6, 2007 at hospitals around the state.
It’s important for you to know Fairview’s reported adverse health events and what we are doing to address them. Fairview reported 24 events; patient deaths were associated with one of the 24. We take these events very seriously. They are unacceptable, and we are working hard to understand and prevent them from happening again. Read about several Fairview initiatives to prevent adverse health events here.
I ask you to join me in reporting anything you see that concerns you about patient care within our system. Thank you for your interest in Fairview.
