Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services / Premier Hospital Quality Demonstration Project
Fairview Inpatient Care

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) / Premier Hospital Quality Demonstration Project was a three-year project that ended in October 2006. Fairview was one of 260 participating sites nationally, along with more than 77,000 patients.

Although the project is over, the measures live on as part of new clinical performance measures that Fairview will continue to track.

Fairview's CMS results for inpatient care:

We're working to determine how best to measure and report clinical measures that are meaningful for patients, health care providers, managers and our board. This is part of a larger process of standardization of clinical quality and safety measures for Fairview and other health care organizations.

The measures are risk-adjusted so that patients who should not receive specific care are not included in the denominator. Fairview's baseline score using 2006 measures show that 78 percent of all inpatients achieved all the treatment goals for the five diagnoses tracked. Our goal for 2007 is to reach 90 percent.
