Fairview Connect
Fairview participates in a shared electronic medical record, also known as "Fairview Connect," with many physicians in the community. We do this so that it is easier for your health care providers to have access to your health information. For example, if you are brought to the hospital in an emergency and can’t provide us with information about what is wrong, we will be able to see information from your physician office’s records if your physician office participates in the shared medical record.
Listed below are the health care providers that participate in the shared electronic medical record with Fairview. We will continue to update this list as new providers are added to Fairview Connect.
- Burnsville Family Physicians, P.A.
- Consultants~Internal Medicine, P.A.
- Richfield Medical Group
How Fairview Connect works
When presenting for care at a facility that uses Fairview Connect, you will be asked to agree to allow any care provider who uses Fairview Connect to access and share your health records exclusively for your treatment and related services. This lets providers at these facilities store, view, update and share your health information to better manage your care. Records of care at any Fairview Connect facility will be combined into one shared medical record. Once your health information is combined, it cannot be separated.
Shared, portable electronic health records are commonly viewed as a health care best practice and many health systems are moving in this direction. Fairview supports this initiative, and we are making it a standard practice for anyone who receives care at our facilities. You cannot opt-out of the shared electronic medical record if you receive care from a provider who uses Fairview Connect.
Your privacy matters
Your privacy and the security of your personal information is important to us. Any facility that uses Fairview Connect is subject to state and federal privacy laws including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Staff is trained to only access and disclose information as allowed by these laws. Fairview takes the privacy of our patients’ health and personal information very seriously, and we audit electronic health record access for appropriate use.
Fairview’s investment in a comprehensive medical record and the expansion of our health record system to other providers is an important step in providing you the best care possible.
