Volunteer Services at Fairview Northland Medical Center

At Fairview Northland Medical Center, volunteers are a vital part of the health care team. Volunteers enhance the hospital experience for patients and their families and assist staff in providing excellent care and service.

Volunteer opportunities

Volunteers are placed in a variety of areas. Day, evening and weekend shifts are available.

Departments offering volunteer opportunities include:

Support services that volunteers provide:

• Greet guests, provide directions, answer questions, take messages
• Assist in lounge areas, offering support and refreshments
• Perform clerical work and re-stock shelves
• Transport patients to different departments
• Visit with patients, offering books, puzzles, movies and games
• Assist with special events or promotions
• Deliver flowers and gifts to patients

First, complete the electronic application by clicking here. Applications are also available at Fairview Northland Medical Center. All volunteers must be age 14 years or older. Volunteers undergo a background check and a health screening, including a two-step Mantoux test for tuberculosis.

People volunteer for many reasons, but most agree that the greatest benefit of volunteering is the satisfaction that comes from helping others and contributing to the community. Meals:

Volunteers working a four-hour shift receive a meal voucher that can be used in our cafeteria. Those working less than a four-hour shift receive a beverage voucher.

Discounts: Volunteers receive a discount on all over-the-counter products at the Fairview retail pharmacies located in Elk River, Milaca, Princeton and Zimmerman. They also qualify for a free flu shot and many other benefits.
