Fairview Southdale Hospital Emergency Care

In a life-threatening emergency, even if you are unsure, call 9-1-1

Care when you need it

When you need emergency medical care due to accident or medical or behavioral illness, emergency departments at Fairview hospitals and medical centers are ready to care for you, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our experienced team of emergency-trained staff and board-certified emergency physicians provides a full spectrum of care for adults and children – ranging from treatment of minor injuries to life-saving specialty and trauma care. If you have any condition you believe will harm you if you don’t see a doctor soon, you should go to the Emergency Department (ED). If you need emergency medical transportation, dial 9-1-1.

Fairview hospitals and medical centers offer doctors and staff who know how to expertly evaluate each patient to decide on the right treatment. We work together across Fairview and with nearby Level I trauma centers to ensure that every patient gets fast and proper care. Fairview’s network of hospitals also gives patients access to a wide range of specialized emergency and trauma care.
No one plans for an emergency. But when one occurs, Fairview Southdale Hospital’s emergency department is prepared. We care for everything from minor injuries to life-threatening events. Our physicians are highly trained and board-certified in emergency medicine, providing exceptional care 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. And now, we are a Level III Trauma Center.

In the Fairview Southdale Hospital emergency department, we determine the right course of treatment for each patient and have access to physicians from a wide range of specialties including heart and artery, cancer care, brain, nerve and spine, or muscle, bone and joint. We also have the most advanced resuscitation equipment, an intensive care unit, on-site surgical staff, digital imaging including X-ray, MRI and CT scanners.

Fairview Southdale Hospital and Edina paramedics were the first to use time-saving digital heart rhythm transmission for emergency care. Edina paramedics have the ability to send a real-time digital picture of a patient’s heart (a 12 lead electrocardiogram) by cell phone to Fairview Southdale Hospital’s new Medtronic LIFENET®RS receiving station.
