Information for patients and family members on: telephones, cell phone use, food service and wireless Internet service at Fairview Lakes Medical Center.
Patient telephones and long distance calls
Telephones are provided in each patient room except in intensive care. Patients may receive calls in their rooms at any time. Fairview Lakes Medical Center does not support the use of cell phones in patient care areas. .
Placing calls from a patient room or any landline phone in the facility: Local calls can be made by dialing “9” and the number. You may call the hospital operator by dialing “0”.
To make long-distance calls from a phone at Fairview Lakes Medical Center: Use your personal credit card or a calling card. Dial “9” then “1” then “0” to reach an outside operator who will place the call for you. Long-distance calls cannot be charged to your room.
Use of cell phones is permitted in all waiting rooms and public areas as long as it does not disturb others. Please do not use cell phones in patient care areas.
Patient food and nutrition
It is important that you eat healthy, well-balanced meals in order to heal and get better. Our nutrition services department tries hard to provide you with nutritious meals that are made according to your doctor’s orders.
Meals are served to hospitalized patients at 7:30 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. Your meal may be delayed if you are scheduled for a special test or treatment. If you are on a special diet prescribed by your doctor, you will receive meals made to your specific needs.
Family members are welcome to buy a meal in the cafeteria and bring it back on a tray to eat in your room with you if they wish.

Fairview has a guest wireless network. Do not plug your laptop into the Fairview Internet.
To log on to our wireless internet:
- Right click on the wireless connection icon on the lower right hand corner of your computer screen. Select FV_Guest and click on the Connect button at the bottom of the window.
- A security warning will display. Click on the “Connect Anyway” button. When you are connected, the word “Connected” with a star is displayed on the right-hand edge of the window next to the network’s name.
- When you start Internet Explorer, a security warning is displayed. Click Yes.
