Quicker recoveries with minimally invasive OB-GYN surgery
When facing surgery, determining the safest, most effective treatment that results in the least amount of pain and discomfort as possible is a priority for most patients. Fairview clinics and hospitals offer a wide variety of options for obstetric and gynecologic (OB-GYN) surgery, including minimally invasive procedures (MIPs).
MIPs—also referred to as laparoscopic surgery—serve as an alternative to many traditional surgeries. Some surgeons rely on robot-assistance while others use either a multiple- or single-incision approach. Because minimally invasive OB-GYN surgery is relatively new, not all medical centers offer it. The OB-GYN surgeons at Fairview, however, were early adopters of this technology and have been performing MIPs for more than a decade, treating hundreds of women.
In addition to surgeries, OB-GYN MIPs are used for the following:
- Heavy bleeding
- Uterine fibroids
- Pelvic pain
- Ovarian cysts
- Endometrial polyps
Family planning procedures
Many of our doctors also offer Nexplanon®, a long-term birth control option that entails inserting a thin metal rod into the skin of a woman’s arm. The procedure is done in the convenience of their doctor’s office using a local anesthetic. Nexplanon® releases pregnancy-preventing hormones for up to three years and is more than 99 percent effective in preventing pregnancy.
Several Fairview doctors also offer Adiana® and Essure®—permanent, hormone-free birth control procedure that doesn’t require an incision and is typically performed in the clinic as an outpatient procedure.
OB-GYN care for women
“I understand that women lead busy lives, often filling multiple roles, including mothers, caretakers and professionals,” says Maryam Moghaddam, DO, an OB-GYN at the Fairview Clinics in Elk River, Maple Grove and Rogers. “In working with them, I offer the least invasive procedure that will address their needs, but let them resume their busy life as soon as possible.”
Fairview OB-GYN doctors care for women at all stages of life, from their first gynecologic exam through pregnancy, childbirth and menopause. From routine procedures to the most advanced operations, our staff is dedicated to providing exceptional care. “I partner with patients and believe that it's a privilege to care for them,” continues Dr. Moghaddam.
