Varicose Veins and Spider Veins
Anyone can get varicose or spider veins; however occupations that require standing can cause them, as well as pregnancy or heredity. Varicose veins are darker-colored veins that rise above the surface of the skin; they usually develop in the legs and are transparent through the skin. Spider veins are smaller lines of red, blue and purple that often fan out or twist and are visible under the skin. They also develop in the legs and can appear on the face.
Varicose veins are common, although often have no symptoms and are more of a nuisance because of their appearance. Some people do have symptoms, including heaviness or tension in the legs. There also may be a feeling of swelling, aching, cramps and itching.
Our doctors evaluate your condition and tailor a treatment plan that addresses the underlying problem, not just the symptoms. Your treatment could include one or more of the following:
- Injecting veins with a chemical
- Non-surgical, minimally invasive treatments
- Compression-hose therapy
- Laser/light therapy
