When considering surgery, weigh your options - Health Education

Single incision, scarless surgery

When considering surgery, it’s important to know your options and weigh the benefits of each one. The single-incision laparoscopic surgery available at Fairview Lakes Medical Center is just one of many treatment options.

CDM-2013-Scarless Surgery

Scarless surgery from a single tiny incision?

We provide surgical solutions for a wide variety of conditions related to the gall bladder; hernias; breast and prostate cancer; the intestines, colon, thyroid and appendix; gynecologic; varicose veins; and acid reflux. From routine procedures in our outpatient surgery center to more advanced operations, our experienced surgeons, nurses, imaging specialists and support staff are dedicated to achieving the best possible outcome for each patient.

General surgeon Mario Potvin, MD, along with the other board certified surgeons at Fairview Lakes Medical Center, will take time to listen to your concerns and discuss each option with you before crafting a surgery plan that’s tailored to your specific needs. Our entire surgical team includes general surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, gynecologic surgeons, head and neck surgeons, ophthalmologists, podiatrists and a dermatologist trained in Mohs surgery, a procedure used to treat skin cancer.

As one of the area’s largest medical groups, our surgeons are trained in a wide variety of surgical methods, including traditional surgery, laparoscopy (a minimally invasive method where a tiny video camera and surgical blade are inserted through a small incision) and robot-assisted surgery, which can be performed at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview.

Our surgeons perform more than 4,000 surgeries every year. We’ve been recognized as:

• A Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement
• A Minnesota Hospital Association Patient Safety Excellence Award winner for safe surgical techniques
• One of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures for surgical care by the Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America

Whether you’ve been living with a troublesome gallbladder or a painful hernia, or have recently been diagnosed with cancer, the surgical team at Fairview Lakes Medical Center is here to offer you exceptional care and create a surgical plan that addresses your needs.
