First Aid Treatment for Dizziness
Because dizziness is often a symptom of an underlying problem, the best treatment is to first identify the problem. Ask the athlete what he/she thinks the problem is or ask the following questions and treat accordingly. Ask the athlete to sit down to avoid injury from collapse.
- Have you eaten today? What did you eat?
- Are you too warm? Too cold? (See Heat Stroke and Exhaustion)
- Are you drinking enough water? How much have you taken in today? (An athlete should take in approximately one cup of water every 15 minutes when practicing in the heat)
- Are you sick? Do you feel okay?
- Are you hurt? (See Shock)
- Did you get hit too hard? (See Concussion)
